In Moscow, five young people lead the charge against an alien race who have attacked Earth via our power supply. The American software designers Sean and Ben travel to Moscow to sell their software to investors. However, their Swedish partner Skyler pulls a fast one on Sean and Ben, and they are out of the business. They go to a nightclub, where they meet American Natalie and Australian Anne and they flirt with the girls and see Skyler in the club. Out of the blue, the population is surprised by lights, which they mistake for natural phenomena. But soon, they learn that the lights are aliens invading Earth and using power supply to annihilate mankind. Sean, Ben, Natalie, Anne and Skyler hide in the kitchen and when they leave the place, they seek out survivors on the street. Are they the last people on Earth? Despite all the terrible reviews this wasn't a terrible movie. I actually quite liked it. Sure there are moments where you just have to go with it, (how did that girl end up in the bus when everyone else is in the river?) and the acting (expect for Hirshe) is not great but I've definitely seen worse.<br/><br/>The premise of invisible energy absorbing aliens is pretty cool and the special effects are excellent -even if they're reminiscent of the beginning of War Of The Worlds, where Tom Cruise is running away (and through) everyone getting incinerated into ash. I also loved the fact that this took place in Moscow, super refreshing location, in fact that was the hook that got me to watch, I doubt I would have bothered if this had been another America saves the day in America movie. 5/24/14 I enjoyed this movie so much that I went to see it twice. This is a low budget film and as low budget films go, this is actually a pretty good one, the special effects are very nice and the scenery also.<br/><br/>The film's acting comes across as a bunch of film students first attempt's at making a movie. But I challenge you to find acting anywhere that is better than Joel Kinnaman's in this movie, he gave it his all and was very believable in his role.<br/><br/>I really enjoyed the Moscow scenery, very beautiful city. I also enjoyed to idea that Americans and Russians could work together when challenged to do so.<br/><br/>Go see this movie with low expectations and have fun! Once upon a time, you'd go to see a grade-C genre movie like this willing to trade consistency and artfulness for a few stray thrills or oddball charm. But Darkest Hour doesn't have even as much character as those Discover commercials.
